Tilt Hydrometer

I used this new piece of tech on my latest brew. The Tilt2 Hydrometer is a Bluetooth hydrometer that continuously records the SG and temperature.

I think it’s a great product and it worked well. It’s supporting software is still somewhat immature and lacks the feel of professional software.

The main problem is that it does not store data on board, so you need to keep your phone next to the fermenter or dedicate a RaspberryPi  grab the data.

The data presentation is also a little arcane in that it’s simply a spreadsheet that you need a Google account to view.

The application on the Pi is also a bit clunky. It uses Node-RED which is quick to develop applications with, but results in basic a interface that requires some manual knowledge to setup.

I hope there’s lots to come on the software development of this product because it really does work well once up and running.
