MACGoto 2

We’re getting there.  This is more in line with my expectations of flavoursome hoppy session beer. It has great aroma and a nice colour. Eminently drinkable, but still not quite to my liking on the malt front. This is using 95% Vienna malt, so it’s no surprise that it’s a bit one dimensional.

I wanted to dry hop as late as possible to keep in as much aroma as possible. To do this I wanted to carbonate before adding the hops so that I could bottle immediately to lock-in the hop aroma. What a big mistake!  If you can remember adding a packet of Mentos to a bottle of Coca-Cola then you can imagine what it’s like adding 150g of hop pellets to 19L of beer!

So, the next brew will have another light malt added for some complexity without adding colour. Perhaps some pilsner and a splash of Maris Otter. We’ll see.
