This was my first attempt at a back to back brew. The idea was to plumb the output of the chiller from the drain into the mash tun.
This recycles the hot water and saves heating water. With a small change to the software, I could immediately then begin a second mash after chilling the first. Practically this wasn’t a problem, but my brew day did go on for about 10 hours. Whew!
The two batches had an identical malt bill. The only thing I decided to change were the hops. They both had Citra and Mosaic. The differences were due to Simcoe versus Centennial & Southern Cross.
Another first for me was the use of my kegerator/fermentation chamber. This is large enough to fit in two fermenters at the same time.
The two resultant brews showed many similarities as expected. There were subtle aromatic differences where Centennial & Southern Cross were more pronounced than Simcoe. With definite resemblances to Tempest’s Long White Cloud.
