Inspired by Brewzilla’s recent sight glass addition, I decided to make my own version.
Tubing
I initially tried different polycarbonate tubes but they were either too flexible or they couldn’t withstand boiling temperatures.
I found a supplier (Tuffnel glass) of borosilicate tubes which is the same glass that is used for test tubes. These are chemically resistant and can withstand very high temperatures. The downside of this material is that it is very difficult to cut to length, This required a lot of patience and effort using a standard glass cutter.
Connectors
These push fit connectors were perfect for the 1/2″ BSP connectors I had lying around.
Hole Cutter
Cutting stainless steel can be a right pain because it is so tough. I find these hole cutters make life as simple as possible.
They give a perfectly clean and accurate cut compared to any tapered drill bit.
